A receptor is not one simple switch
Researchers study how molecules interact with receptors, which are proteins that help cells respond to signals. An allosteric site is a place on a receptor that is separate from its main binding site. Activity there can change how the receptor responds to another molecule. That is a more specific idea than saying something simply switches a receptor on.
What the CBD paper studied
A 2015 laboratory paper described CBD as a negative allosteric modulator of the CB1 receptor in its experimental systems. In plain language, CBD changed certain receptor responses under those test conditions. This was cellular research. It was not a trial of a Cannabolix topical, a sports recovery test, or a guarantee about how CBD changes someone's experience of THC.
Keep the scale of the claim honest
Cannabolix lists CBD isolate in its current Soothing Freeze product. That ingredient fact does not turn a receptor experiment into a finished-product outcome. When a cannabis headline mentions a mechanism, ask which cells, which measurements, and which conditions were involved. Understanding the smaller question can make the science more interesting without making the product promise bigger.
